Slashdot | Harvard Open Source Courseware
![]() from the first-educational-post dept. mpawlo writes "Gnuheter reports that the Berkman Center for Internet and Society releases the H20 courseware software as open source. Two years and 1 million USD are invested in the software so far... The software has been tested at Harvard Law School, but should be suitable for other disciplines than law." The code, for the curious, is here. It requires Tomcat and PostgreSQL on Linux. (FWIW, I have gotten Tomcat and PostgreSQL to run on Win2K OK). As one may expect, the initial /. reaction was not very polite. A posting from Hal Roberts, the H2O project dirctor, gives a good description about the project, its software, and its goals. The concepts behind this system and the problems they seek to resolve are valid. CALI will be testing this software shortly, so watch this space for more.
