Amazon Sued for Patent Infringement
from the but-not-the-one-click dept. theodp writes "Amazon's 10-K SEC filing discloses that the e-tailer has been sued for infringing on Soverain Software patents for Network Sales Systems (5,715,314 & 5,909,492) and Internet Server Access Control and Monitoring Systems (5,708,780), aka the Open Market patents, aka the Divine cashectomy patents, which Soverain obtained in the wake of Divine's bankruptcy sale." [Slashdot] This could be important. Amazon holds the 'one-click purchase' patent and it is being sued by the holder of patent for what is basically a shopping cart system. This should serve to highlight the silliness of software patents and how a gold rush mentality led to the filings in the first place. Of course it will probably be settled quietly in a lawyers office and aside from a brief press release never get the public airing that it needs. 7:02:04 AM ![]() |
