mod_foo

mod_foo: " mod_foo: What do I do?

Once you leave 'anonymous user' wasteland you have the ability to submit news items and articles to our submission queue where other non-anonymous users can vote stories into publication on the site. While in the queue users can make suggestions to you on how to improve the story, suggest further links, setup mirrors/torrents, and generally help make a published story all it can be.
Part of this process is that the mod_foo community also gets to cast cruddy stories into the pits of hell where they belong! "

An interesting concept.  Like a community blog, where the community decides on what gets posted and participates in the authoring/editorial process.  This is a great idea for community building.
For the curious, it is powered by Drupal.

kforeman writes "The RealPlayer 10 for Linux and its underlying 100% open source Helix Player are now both finalized. The RealPlayer 10 for Linux has many new features including a Mozilla plug-in, so you can now enjoy all those embedded media clips, as well as the latest RealAudio 10, RealVideo 10, MP3, Flash, and Ogg Vorbis and Theora support. The Helix Player is 100% open source, (now including the GPL!) and includes support for SMIL 2.0 and open source codecs Ogg Vorbis and Theora. Our goal is to make the Linux desktop a first class citizen and we think today's releases are a good first step in that direction."

Noksagt writes "P2P isn't just for government documents anymore! Bibster assists researchers in managing, searching, and sharing bibliographic data in a peer-to-peer network. This project shows great promise to researchers who currently search for citations through centralized servers (Google, Scirus, CiteSeer, ISI. and many others). By making it decentralized, researchers can share bibliographic data with no subscription costs and avoid typing this data in by hand. It can import and export citations using bibtex. The project is GPLed and free clients for windows and Linux are available. There's also a Sourceforge page for Bibster, so you can checkout from the CVS if the Bibster site is slow."

Radio UserLand has a product manager. Hey how about that. And he's already on the job. I use Radio, using it right now to write this post. I was planning on fixing some bugs. Steve Kirks is a good guy. A true believer.

Developers of Web services and enterprise applications must make their software secure. While cryptography alone does not a secure system make, it's important for developers to have a firm grasp of the basic theory and technologies behind encryption, so they can make informed decisions about whether to apply cryptographic technology, and if so, how.
